Panthers Expected To Sign Kalil From Vikings

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —  Offensive tackle Matt Kalil is expected to sign with the Carolina Panthers on Thursday when the 2017 NFL season officially begins.

The 27-year-old Kalil is the younger brother of Panthers’ center Ryan Kalil.  He has played his entire five-year career in Minnesota after being drafted by the Vikings with the fourth pick in the 2012 draft.

Matt Kalil played in only two games for the Vikings in 2016, before he was placed on injured reserve and underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip.

The proposed terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Kalil is a Pro-Bowl caliber left tackle when healthy.

The addition of Kalil would allow Michael Oher to move to right tackle when he fully recovers from a concussion suffered early in the 2016 season.
