Missing South Charlotte teenager found safe
CHARLOTTE, NC– “We are very happy she’s back with us that she’s safe,” said cousin, Heather Mitchell.
Heather Mitchell is 17-year-old Alexis Mitchell’s cousin. She says she’s been at the hospital all morning visiting Alexis while she’s examined by doctors.
Family says Alexis admits after an argument with her parents she left the house, got on the Lynx light rail, rode it into Uptown and was walking around but that’s when she was approached and taken against her will.
Alexis had been missing for more than six days when police got a break. CMPD confirms someone called early Monday morning who had been with Alexis when they realized she was missing and police and family were searching for her. Police say what happened while she was missing is an ongoing investigation.
“She was being held against her will absolutely, absolutely,” said Mitchell.
Heather says she believes Alexis’s story.
“It’s just very scary knowing she has an intellectual disability and talking to her you can pick up on that very easily after spending a short period of time with her,” said Mitchell.
Heather says Alexis was taken to several different hotels with several different groups of people and now she wants to find them and see them brought to justice.
“You just have to love on your children and just you know stay on top of them and every time they leave out of that door you have to hug them,” said Mitchell.
