North Carolina House Speaker Releases Statement on Bill to Deny Same Sex Marriage

Raleigh, N.C. – North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) released a statement Wednesday regarding House Bill 780 Uphold Historical Marriage Act:

“There are strong constitutional concerns with this legislation given that the U.S. Supreme Court has firmly ruled on the issue, therefore House Bill 780 will be referred to the House Rules Committee and will not be heard,” said Moore.

House Bill 780 seeks to outlaw same-sex marriage within North Carolina, stating that the Supreme Court Ruling “overstepped constitutional bounds” and the choice to define marriage should be left up to individual states.
