Ash Trees Are The Prime Target For This Invasive Asian Beetle

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte could soon be invaded by an Asian beetle notorious for killing ash trees throughout most of the eastern states.

The Emerald Ash Borer has already attacked trees in Gaston, Lincoln, Catawba, and Iredell Counties, according to the North Carolina Forest Service.

Since it was first discovered in Michigan around 15 years ago, the beetle has slowly worked its way south leaving hundreds of millions of dead trees in their wake.

Officials say anyone with an ash tree in their yard must have them treated now, or be prepared to have them removed within the next few years.
