Police Identify Persons Involved In Wednesday Monroe Shooting

UPDATE: Police have identified the “victim” of Wednesday’s shooting as 36-year-old Jason Cope, of Lancaster, SC, and the “suspect” as 32-year-old Samantha Byers.

Both Cope and Byers were taken to the hospital for treatment and have since been released, according to officials.

Police say a 3-year-old child was inside the home at the time of the shooting but was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing, but officials say no charges have been filed at this time.


Monroe, N.C. — Around noon, Monroe Police responded to 2209 Wheaton Way regarding a person being shot. When they arrived they found a male with a gunshot wound.

The male was transported to the hospital and his current condition is not known at this time.

The resident of the home (a female) was at the home and appeared to have fired the shot.

It is currently not clear as to the relationship and circumstances surrounding the incident.

Investigators are on scene and are interviewing all parties to determine exactly what occurred and if any charges will be filed.
