According to reports, deputies had been alerted to an armed suspect in a stolen vehicle being pursued into Chester County. Deputies attempted to stop the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Raekwon Johnson, when he was spotted speeding down Lancaster Highway near Lewisville Middle School.
Deputies say Johnson got on I-77 heading towards Rock Hill, but hit another vehicle and lost control. That’s when a SCHP vehicle rammed Johnson’s car, and he took off on foot.
After a search of the woods by both Chester and York County deputies and K-9 units, Johnson was arrested. He is charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Blue Light, and Driving Without a License.
Deputies say the two females have been transferred into CMPD custody.
The chase started just after 3pm when CMPD tried to stop a suspected stolen vehicle on Tyvola at South Boulevard. Officials say the suspects took off and led law enforcement down I-77, eventually crashing near a rest stop in Richburg.
After the suspects crashed, officials say the male driver took off into the woods and two female passengers were taken into custody. K-9 units were called in to search, and the suspect was arrested about 4 miles from the scene. According to reports, the search lasted about three hours.
The suspects were arrested by Chester County Sheriff’s Deputies. They say the driver is facing charges, but they have not said yet what they are.
