York County Deputy Identified After Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting Friday

The York County Sheriff’s Office says deputy Gary Pence was involved in the deadly officer-involved shooting Friday morning.

Pence has been with the YCSO since October 2016, according to officials, and has been placed on administrative leave. SLED is continuing their investigation into the incident, and say a full report will be given to the 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office for review once it is completed.

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in York County Friday morning.

The York County Sheriff’s Office says 33-year-old Trent Fondren was shot by deputies and pronounced dead on the scene. Officials say the deputy involved was not injured.

The coroner’s office says autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

The shooting occurred just after 4 a.m. on December 1, 2017, in the 700 block of East Old Limestone Road in York, South Carolina.

Officials say the officer was responding to a “civil disturbance”.

The York County Sheriff’s Office and SLED are investigating. No further details have been released at this time.
