Vandals Cause $30K in Damage to Local Cemetery
CHARLOTTE, NC — No arrests so far after vandals hit a northwest Charlotte cemetery. They damaged dozens of tombstones inside the Salem Church Cemetery.
The graveyard near Rozzelles Ferry Road has tombstones dating back to the 1800s. Northwest Charlotte resident Chris Thomas tells WCCB Charlotte a crime like this is disrespectful to families that are grieving.
“To have to go through the heartache and the struggle of burying your loved one, and then have to come back out here and then repair their grave. I think that’s kind of messed up,” said Thomas.
Church officials tell us the damage is around $30,000.
