In a triumphant return after more than a decade-long absence, a 1-mile race will be held in uptown Charlotte to determine that Fastest Man and Woman in Charlotte!

On April 23, 2011, starting between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., near the corner of 12th Street and North Tryon, participants will run 5,280 feet passing the McColl Center for Visual Art, Discovery Place, and Spirit Square, and ending in front of the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and the Mint Museum of Art. Levine Avenue of the Arts will be closed for post-race festivities. The Charlotte Museum Mile will benefit the Arts & Science Council. Entry fee for the race is $25.

Runners will be divided into age and gender categories based on projected running time, with races starting every 10-15 minutes. An official pace car and clocks every ¼ mile will alert runners to their pace. The fastest runners in each division will receive medals with the overall winners receiving cash prizes and being crowned the Fastest Man in Charlotte™ and Fastest Woman in Charlotte™. Any man or woman breaking the world record will win a BMW 1 Series convertible provided by Hendrick BMW. Each participant will receive a performance race shirt designed by Charlotte artist Ashley Lathe.
