High performance diesel trucks and cars will take center stage Saturday, April 30, 2011 for the 1st Annual Tar Heel Diesel Nationals events at the Zmax Dragway in Concord and the Big Lick Festival Park in Oakboro later that night. As the fourth event in the exciting 2011 MBRP Performance Exhaust diesel drag race season, the National Hot Rod Diesel Association (NHRDA) Tar Heel Diesel Nationals featuring the top competitors in North America battling for title of Tar Heel Diesel National Champion as well as diesel-powered crowd favorites such as Diesel Drag Racing, Burnout Contests, Show ‘n Shine, Dyno Competitions, and Sled Pulls.
NHRDA drag racing takes center stage with six categories of racing that include Top Diesel, Pro Stock, Pro Street, Super Street, 11.90 index and Sportsman Et.
In the Burnout Contest, competitors get 20 seconds to do the biggest, baddest burnout they can, creating a cloud of smoke and cheers. In the Show ‘n Shine contest, the best looking car or truck takes the win voted on by both a panel of judges and audience response. Competitors walk away with over $15,000 in prize money, while spectators can enter to win exciting raffle prizes held each hour.

The Tar Heel Diesel Nationals kicks off at the Zmax Dragway, located at 6570 Bruton Smith Blvd. in Concord 28026 (main event line is 704-455-3200). Gates at the Zmax Dragway open at 8:00a.m. and Drag Racing qualifying events are from 9:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. Drag Racing eliminations, the crowd-favorite Burnout Contest, the Show ‘n Shine competition events run from 1:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Admission at the Zmax Dragway is free for kids 5 and under, $5 for both kids 6-12 and all Military, and $10 for adults.
The excitement relocates later in the night to the Big Lick Festival Park for the Sled Pull competitions. Big Lick Festival Park is located at 640 South Oak Ridge Road (HWY 205) in in Oakboro. Spectator gates open at 4:00p.m. and Sled Pull events run from 7:00p.m. until the finish. Admission for the Sled Pull competitions is free for kids 5 and under, $5 for kids 6 to 12, and $10 for all adults.
