Event Description

The 12th Annual Art Show and Sale of the Silver Brush Art Society will be held at the Weaver, Bennett, and Bland building, 196 N. Trade Street in historic downtown Matthews, with opening night reception on Friday, Nov. 9 and continuing Saturday, Nov. 10. This Art Show has always supported Matthews HELP Center from sales of their art work. Prudy Weaver, one of the founding partners, stated, “Over the years, the Silver Brush Art Society has donated over $25,000 to the HELP Center,” a charitable organization which operates only from donations.
Four important components embrace this event. The first is the Silver Brush Art Society comprised of fine art artists: Prudy Weaver, John Moeslein, Cynthia Howard, Shane Somerset, Sharon Furner, Sandy Wilkinson, Sharron Burns, Max McLeod, and jeweler, Julie Johnson. The artists work in all the major mediums. Each has a distinctive style in a wide variety of sizes, colors, and subject matter at reasonable prices for holiday gifts.
The second component consists of the attorneys and employees of the law firm Weaver, Bennett and Bland who generously stop working for two days while furniture and existing works of art are stored, allowing each artist an entire office space for displaying art work.
The third component is Matthews HELP Center. Kim Rhodarmer, Executive Director, said, “As we celebrate the 33rd anniversary of Matthews HELP Center, we are grateful to remain the beneficiaries of these uniquely talented local artists.” Nine employees and over 300 weekly volunteers offer many services to our community such as Financial Crisis Assistance ($300K); Food Pantry (5,882 people); Back 2 School supplies (382 children) and clothing (90 children); Holiday Adoption (881 people); and BounceBack Backpacks (60 weekly). The Thrift Shop offers high quality clothes, shoes, home goods, house wares, books, and small furniture items. The Center’s client numbers have increased more than 300% during the past 3 years.
The Silver Brush Art Society along with Weaver, Bennett and Bland, and Matthews HELP Center need you, the fourth and most important component, to make November 9th and 10th a very special and successful event.
