David W. Butler High School Performing Arts Department will present the eight time Tony Award winning musical, Hairspray. In 1962, a Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire – to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star, but she must use her newfound power to vanquish the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a TV network – all without denting her ‘do!
Return to event list.The production will be on stage starting Thursday, February 21st to Saturday, February 23rd at 7:00pm nightly. A final matinee show will be on Sunday, February 24 at 2:00pm. David W. Butler High School is located at 1810 Matthews Mint-Hill Rd Matthews, NC 28105. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. Butler has an award winning Performing Arts Department. Recent accolades include theatre awards such as Excellence in Directing, Acting and Production/Design from the 2012 North Carolina Theatre Conference, numerous college scholarships and many more. |
