Location: Sign and Doodle
The Sign and Doodle Grand Opening marks the start of something new and fresh in our area. Until now, Cabarrus and surrounding counties have been missing out on the benefits of a Sign and Doodle class. Classes begin for students as young as 3 months old and continue up to 8 years old. However, there are individual sessions, homeschool classes, and special needs services offered for all ages. Using the Signing Time curriculum and the innovative Fundanoodle learning systems, the program creates an atmosphere of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic instruction to meet all learning styles. Fundanoodle is also a locally developed, but world wide product, created by Carolina Pad in Charlotte. Research shows that learning sign language as an infant or toddler improves communication, reduces tantrums, and increases learning. Signing has benefits for verbal children as well, it is a powerful aide that can be used in conjunction with any subject material to reinforce learning and increase retention. When hearing children learn to sign, even a little, it also helps to bridge the gap between the hearing and deaf community. In a Sign and Doodle class, children will learn to sign through direct instruction, story time, music, games, and social interactions. Skills are reinforced in a relaxed, supportive environment that also caters to parents and caregivers with tips to take home, the support of an experienced instructor, and the camaraderie of other like-minded families. The instructor, Melissa Augustyn, has over 15 years of experience working with children with special needs, 11 of which were as a special education teacher in Cabarrus County. Classes are designed to be all inclusive and appropriate for children of all ability levels. Sign and Doodle will open their doors to the public on Saturday, April the 6th and offer free classes to the community at both 9 and 11 am. There will be informational sessions, Q&A, demo classes, enrollment information, and door prizes. You can learn more at their website: www.signanddoodle.comReturn to event list.
