Man on the Edge - Change Your Profile Pic for a Cause?
Maybe you've seen it floating around the web today, and wondered what it was. Maybe you've seen it, and didn't care. But there are virtually limitless versions of the "marriage equality" equal sign floating around Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, etc., modified as red and white versions to show support during the Supreme Court's gay rights hearings this week.
The "equality" meme has exploded today, with everybody on the Internet making their own version: from artsy-fartsy mock-ups to fandom-inspired themes. The red and white equal signs are easy to make, and it generally only takes a few minutes; kind of the Internet version of wearing a pink ribbon, or what have you. Which is probably why Jimmy Kimmel called it the absolute least thing you can do to help the cause. A cynic might say it's just a "feel good" action that doesn't really do much to effect change.
But what do you think? Do you add "movement" icons to your profile, or does changing your Facebook picture for a cause really do anything?
