Man on the Edge - Should Charlotte Pay to Keep Races Here?

by WCCB News Edge

Charlotte is home to major sports venues, though this year has been a little rocky for our franchises.  First the Panthers seemed ready to bounce, and now the owner of Charlotte Motor Speedway has been hinting he's not happy with keeping the Bank of America 500 here.  And since Charlotte makes so much money from the races, should the city get involved?

Bruton Smith has been talking about how much money he could make by moving the fall race from Charlotte Motor Speedway to his track in Las Vegas.  And while technically Concord hosts the race itself, the impact is felt all over the area, especially here in Charlotte.  We have the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Speed Street, as well as tons of restaurants and attractions that feed off the business that Bruton built.  And he knows it.  Which is probably why he wants business deals to go his way.

So if Concord and Bruton can't come to terms, should Charlotte cough up money to keep the fall race at Charlotte Motor Speedway?
