A kid's first car is a milestone, and a sign of independece.  But at 16, are you after a brand new beauty, or will any old beater do?  A beater is cheaper and insurance is lower, but a new car is probably more reliable, if more expensive.  Or what about the best of both worlds: a new-looking classic?  Robert Wilder hits the streets to get your take.
