A new survey out of the University of Middlesex taps our more prurient instincts, asking how many of us would have sex with a robot. Seventeen percent said "Yes, please!" And nearly thirty percent were cool with that. Of course, in so many way that we won't go into, some people already do. But the fact that someone would have sex with a humanoid robot might seem to raise them to a higher plane, a little closer to being human.
The future of robots is coming quickly. A report from two years ago said robot prostitutes could be reality in 50 years. But before that, we could see the first real human-looking and human-acting robots like Robocop. Ten percent of people think that will happen within the next 10 years.
But it's not all serving and servicing mankind. More people believe that the rise of robots will actually lead to the fall of the human race. Of course there's plenty of source material for that kind of thinking. Almost every major robot movie involves them trying to kill us, because they think they're better than us.
Our Man on the Edge, Robert Wilder, treats everybody equally, human or robot, but will robots ever be equal to humans?
