Man on the Edge: Should Performer Have Been Booted for Anti-Obama Lyric? When you've been invited into somebody else's house, you don't take the opportunity to critisize everything about it. You don't say the place is terrible, or the furniture is tasteless, or that none of the homeowner's ideas make any sense. Apparently, Lupe Fiasco forgot this unspoken rule of hospitality when he performed during the 2013 Presidential Inauguration this weekend, and proceeded to sing lyrics that were critical of the President. The crowd can be heard both cheering and jeering as things get disorganized, until finally the lights are tuned off. Officially, organizers say Fiasco was not shut down, but that he went shorter than expected, and so they moved on to a new act onstage. ...Right. The interesting part is that this is far from the first time Fiasco has been critical of the President or of US policy. He once even called the President the biggest terrorist of all. Knowing this, you'd think the organizers would have done some background reasearch on every performer, including Fiasco. So should the organizers have known better, or should Lupe have kept his opinions to himself? Was it right for Fiasco to be booted for an anti-Obama lyric? |
