Man on the Edge: What To Do With Triumph? Most passengers of Carnival's cruise ship "Triumph" are just happy to be home. After a week of walking around on a crippled ship without power, without plumbing, and literally human waste sloshing around on the decks, the feeling of solid--and relatively clean--dirt under their feet was more than welcome. The Triumph was disabled by a freak engine fire accident, but since most people understand such an occurrence is rare, the cruise industry isn't really hurting. Most passengers actually have nothing but praise for the way the crew handled the situation. So the real question here is less about business, and more about simple cleanliness. The Triumph cost $420 million to build, so Carnival isn't likely to just scrap it. Clean her up, slap on a new name, give her a fresh christening, and the Triumph will likely be cruising the Caribbean once again. But knowing the Triumph's history, could you imagine staying in a room you know used to be covered in the nastiest mess imaginable? This isn't really a mess a little Pine-Sol is going to fix. So in our Question of the Night we ask: What should they do with the cruise ship "Triumph"? |
