Should the Media Self-Censor Coverage of the Boston Bombing?

 As the tragedy at the Boston Marathon unfolded in real time before our eyes yesterday evening, images of the violence and terror flooded our newsfeeds.  Many of the images were highly graphic, and exposed viewers to far more violent injuries than any of us expected to see.

So are graphically violent photos too raw for viewers?  Or is this simply the result of covering a disaster in real time over such unregulated media as Internet live streams and social media?  Should the media be self-censoring the most graphic images coming out of the Boston bombing coverage?
