Panthers Secret Practice, NASCAR's UnluckiestCHARLOTTE, NC - The lockout is still on, but that's not stopping some Panthers from practicing. Players hired a police officer to shoo away reporters from the high school where they were working out Tuesday morning. Cones blocked another entrance to the field at Charlotte Christian. A few dozen high-priced vehicles were seen in the parking lot, but the field was out of view from the road. No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton was expected to participate in at least some of the workouts, which are scheduled through June 9. At least the Panthers are still in town. Albert Breer made the comments during a live appearance on Friday's Pro Football Talk Live. Breer went on to say some of the reasons he feels the Panthers should be in the mix would be issues with their stadium and the fact that there's no succession plan in place with ownership. Hey researcher, the Panthers own their stadium... what lease are you talking about? NASCAR But, don't blame Junior or crew chief Steve Letarte. If the 88 team had pitted for gas, they wouldn't have finished anywhere near 7th place. Prior to running on empty, they managed fuel better than any other team in that race. Hopefully, it's a good sign for the rest of the season. Junior is currently fourth in the Sprint Cup Chase standings. Speaking of the chase, five-time champ Jimmie Johnson is currently in third place. The problem for the 48 team is, the two hottest drivers in racing are right in front of him. Carl Edwards continues to lead the standings by 36 points. Carl Edwards easily claimed the $1 million payday with a flawless run in the Sprint All-Star Race.
