NFL Draft

The NFL Draft takes place next month in April. But, the scouting combine took place the last week in February in Indy; and we learned a lot.

As expected, Cam Newton showed off his arm and decision-making skills, but, overall, didn't perform very well - further proving he'll be a project in the pros.

Meanwhile, the quarterback who received the most positive attention, didn't even throw a pass.  Missouri's Blaine Gabbert took the conservative approach, so he didn't have the chance to not live up to expectations.

Despite the hype - it's far from a guarantee Carolina will draft a QB. That's why the rising stock of Alabama defensive lineman Marcell Dareus was of particular interest to the Panthers. Todd McShay, from ESPN & Scouts, Inc., says this is the fastest defensive line group he’s ever seen - and Dareus was specially impressive.

Charlotte 49ers Football

The Charlotte 49ers have their first head coach football coach: former Wake Forest defensive coordinator Jeff Lambert.

Charlotte athletic director Judy Rose said, weeks ago, she had never even heard of Lambert. But, Rose said his application letter talked about “growing up on a farm in Kansas, his work ethic and what he would do as coach.” Two weeks later, Lambert receives a six-year deal worth $250,000 annually.

Pay attention, it pays to learn the correct way to write a cover letter and resume!
