Driving emergencies happen; however, whether it’s an auto accident or something as simple as a tire blowout, they can still have serious repercussions. That’s why Toyota of N Charlotte has tips on how you can handle some of the most common ones! One of the most important things you can do when you get behind the wheel of your new Toyota near Charlotte is to be prepared – knowing how to handle these situations can save you a lot of time, money, and frustration! Let’s dive in!

How should you react to tire emergencies in your N Charlotte Toyota?

  • Tire Blowout: You’re driving your new Toyota in N Charlotte and you hear that familiar thump – you’ve got a tire blowout. What to do? First, don’t slam on the brakes. As crazy as it sounds, you should actually hit the gas for a few seconds on your new Toyota and keep driving straight – don’t try to pull off the road just yet (it may cause you to lose control and flip). Let your car coast to a slower speed and then carefully (and gently – no yanking on the wheel) pull off to the shoulder and come to a stop.
  • Two tires go off the road: Say you’re driving and all of a sudden, you find two tires of your new Toyota off-roading it. This can lead to an immediate imbalance and subsequent accident – how do you react? Whatever you do, DO NOT try to swerve back onto the road. Your N Charlotte Toyota may lose control. Instead, take your foot off the gas pedal – not hitting the brakes – and let your car slow down on its own. Gently steer back up onto the pavement – this should be a gradual process!

Toyota of N Charlotte has driving tips to help you out of the worst situations!

  • Hood latch failure: You know in the movies when the hood flies up, completely blocking the driver’s view? It actually does happen and can obstruct your view of the road entirely. If this situation occurs in your new Toyota, first try to look underneath the hood to see the road. If that’s not possible try to lean out the window and look around the hood; at the same time, slow down until you’ve safely reached a stop. You can use the center lines on the road to guide you safely until you’ve managed to pull off the road.
  • Brake failure: It does happen from time to time, and losing your brakes can be a scary experience. If you’re in a new Toyota near Charlotte that has ABS brakes, your first step should be to downshift to low range (for automatic vehicles) or lower gears (for manual vehicles). Next, hit the brakes hard and hold them – this allows brake fluid to build back up in your new Toyota. If you don’t have ABS brakes, you should pump the brakes vigorously. Steer off the road and if need be, pull your parking brake – but expect to swerve, and be aware of your surroundings.
