Layoffs In Store For Freightliner EmployeesDaimler Trucks North America says it is notifying it's production workers of possible job losses in plants across the country. Freightliner is the country's largest industrial employer, with two Gaston County plants, a truck manufacturing factory in Mount Holly and a parts plant in Gastonia. Combined, they have about 2,900 workers. A spokesman for the company did not say how many workers might be affected, but many employees present in the Tuesday meeting said that U.S. plants could lose up to 1,300 workers this year. They also said the Mount Holly location will be hit the hardest. A Daimler Trucks spokesman says the company will release more detailed information on Thursday. March will most likely be the date for Freightliner layoffs. |
