CMS Still Hires Teacher Despite Criminal RecordCHARLOTTE, N.C. - Kristina Ngum, the 43-year-old educator who specializes in teaching disabled children is charged with sexual activity with a 17-year-old male student. Detectives say the incident happened off school property. Court records show it happened in December but the police report says it happened in May. Ngum was hired by the district in March 2012. Before that, she was arrested in July 2011 for fraud and larceny. The fraud charge was dismissed. She pleaded guilty to larceny and paid a fine. In 2008, she pleaded guilty to driving while impaired. In 2009, Ngum was charged with driving with a revoked license. In 2010, she was charged with the same offense. In 2011, she was charged twice with driving with a revoked license. Over the past five years, she's had three substantial speeding tickets. All this before CMS hired her. Under their own policy, fraud, larceny and DWI can eliminate a candidate from being hired. It's unclear why the district decided to hire Ngum. The district's superintendent was not available Monday. We're told he won't be available to answer our questions until Wednesday. Ngum's history also includes two charges of driving without insurance. Her Mint Hill neighbors tell us she and her family are good people. One man says he "can't believe" the sex charge she faces. |
