Customs and Border Protection Officers Make Drug Smuggling Arrest, Fugitive ArrestCHARLOTTE, N.C. -- United States Custons and Border Protection officers at Charlotte Douglas International Airport recently apprehended two United States citizens, one for attempting to smuggle illicit narcotics into the United States and one for probation violation, officials announced today. The first apprehension occurred on November 21, 2012, while CBP officers were conducting routine inspections and encountered a 34 year old male arriving from Montego Bay, Jamaica. Officers discovered 10 grams of heroin within the subject’s suitcase. The subject was arrested on state charges and turned over to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport Police. The second apprehension occurred on November 23, 2012, when 27 year old Patrick Snyder arrived from St. Maarten and was identified as the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant out of Ohio for probation violation from a dangerous drugs charge. Once Snyder’s identity and the warrant were confirmed, he was arrested and turned over to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport Police for extradition. "These arrests are excellent examples of how CBP officers continually work to prevent terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the U.S. while also safeguarding America from illicit narcotics and apprehending wanted fugitives," said Patricia Fitzpatrick, U.S. Customs and Border Protection area port director in Charlotte. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers’ primary mission is anti-terrorism; they screen individuals, vehicles, and goods entering the United States, while also facilitating the flow of legitimate trade and travel into and out of the United States.
