Matthews Police Department Employee Fired for Embezzlement
CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Police in Matthews say a department employee responsible for property seized in criminal investigations is charged with embezzling.
Chief Rob Hunter said Thursday that 35-year-old Melissa Guillet was fired May 13 after an investigation. Hunter said police also took out warrants against Guillet for three counts of embezzlement of funds by a public officer.
Authorities said they became aware April 25 of ``possible improper conduct'' and immediately removed Guillet from her position. That touched off an investigation which ended with Guillet's firing followed by the criminal warrants.
Guillet had worked with Matthews police for six years. Hunter said she was responsible for the security and management of all seized and found property items. A police spokeswoman said Guillet was to turn herself in Thursday.
