Former Police Chief Pleads Guilty to Embezzlement Charges
CHERRYVILLE, N.C.--The former Cherryville police chief appeared in court Tuesday on embezzlement charges.
Authorities said Woodrow Burgess pleaded guilty in court Tuesday, June 25, after they accused him of taking more than $11,000 from the city.
Investigators said Burgess used some of the money to buy personal guns.
The FBI raided Burgess' home in April, about six months after his resignation.
Authorities charged several of Burgess' officers with corruption in 2012.
