Mailbox Thieves Arrested
STATESVILLE, NC - Iredell County Sheriff officers have arrested two Statesville residents after a three month investigation, that originated with several complaints from residents that mail was taken from their mailboxes during the night time hours.
During the investigation officers spoke with victims and witnesses in the area of Bell Farm Rd. and were able to get a description of a vehicle that was observed pulling up to mailboxes and taking mail. The vehicle was dark in color and had a loud muffle. The information was posted on the Sheriff’s Website www.iredellsheriff.com with a picture of the vehicle. After one day on the site an unknown person called Iredell/Statesville crime stoppers and gave information to officers.
Suspects Wesley Eugene Goodin age 22, of Midway Rd. Statesville, and Michelle Matheson Southard 39, of Riverfield Dr. Statesville, were arrested for the mailbox thefts. Goodin drives a dark colored Toyota Celicia with a loud muffler, and both confessed to checking the mailboxes on Shiloh Rd. and the Bell Farm Rd. area.
During the investigation officers linked the two to vehicle break-ins. The Iredell County Sheriff Office received reports March 27th and April 2nd in reference to two Ice cream trucks broken into at the Paleteria-La-Deliciosa, located on Turnersburg Hwy. Detectives were able to determine that Wesley Goodin and one juvenile had broken into the vans.
Wesley Eugene Goodin has been charged with seven counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, one count of Felony Larceny of Choice in action, and two counts of Felony break/enter of a motor vehicle. Mr. Goodin was placed under a $25,000.00 secured bond.
Michelle Matheson Southard has been charged with five counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, and one count of Felony Larceny of choice in action with a $15,000.00 dollar secured bond. Both are in the Iredell County Detention Center.
