Traffic is flowing and long time residents are traveling along The Plaza.  Life is as it should be in Charlotte's NoDa neighborhood.  Lifelong resident Denise Drum says "this is home and this will be home."  But home has been abuss with police activity in recent days.  Police arrested 12 men for solicitation of a prostitute.  They were arrested last Friday night on or near the corner of 36th and The Plaza.  They're accused of soliciting not a prostitute but an undercover police officer.

The arresting of "johns" or the customers of prostitution is not an easy process it requires undercover officers as well as a support team and in this last reverse sting operation 24 officers were involved.  CMPD's Sgt. Christian Wagner says "we have to prepare for the unexpected and in this particular operation there were enough officers there to make the arrests safely to protect the officers working the operation that might be in an undercover capacity."

Police know all too well that even a large number of arrests only solves the problem temporarily as the business and clientele can move to a different neighborhood.  Wagner adds "we are going to follow up on any location and we're going to address where this type of crime is occurring.

Emily Burns has lived in NoDa for four years.  She is thankful for the police sweep.  Burns says     "a lot the residents kind of keep their eyes open and call police when they see something that's a little weird because we know what's normal here and what's not so we do our part too but we really appreciate the police being out too."

and it is that connection with the residents police say that is so important as it is the residents who will likely tell police when this problem returns.
