Police Officer Suspended For Indecent Liberties With 15 Year Old
MONROE, NC - Monroe Police Sgt. Joe Pressley has been suspended with pay following an allegation of indecent liberties with a 15 year old female. Union County District Attorney, Trey Robison, in collaboration with Chief Debra Duncan asked the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) to conduct an investigation into allegations that Sgt Pressley, while off duty, inappropriately touched the female. This allegedly occurred in early Spring 2011.
Monroe Police Chief Debra Duncan said, “Police officers are not above the law and must be held accountable for his/her actions or non-actions. However, it is important to remember that as with all persons accused of a crime, there is a presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law. At this point this is an investigation only and no charges have been filed.”
“It is standard in these types of complaints to ask a third party law enforcement agency to conduct the investigation so as to dispel any perception of impropriety or cover up. Sgt. Pressley will remain on administrative leave until the conclusion of the investigation,” Duncan said.
Sgt. Pressley is a 15 year veteran of the police department and is currently assigned to the Patrol Division.
