FREDERICKSBURG, V.A.--A crook's plan to steal hundreds of dollars went up in smoke when the thief tried to blow up an ATM. 

It happened at a credit union in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  The thief ran away empty handed.  The explosion caused some damage but the ATM still works.
