Businesses Want A Piece Of The DNC PieCHARLOTTE, NC- From local street vendors to boutiques, bars and bakeries – Charlotte businesses are hoping to get a slice of the DNC pie. Many are creating special stuff to draw visitors from Uptown Charlotte. "I wanted to sell merchandise so everyone can buy something affordable and show their support for Obama," said Chrystle Bradford. The owners of Unexpected Finds in South End offered their store front to the family, who couldn't get official space in Uptown. "It's a win-win situation for everybody. It helps the vendors, it helps us," said J.B. Sabin, co-owner of Unexpected Finds. The Boulevard at South End is selling locally-made DNC items from Charlotte artists. "As we get closer, sales have picked up, traffic has picked up and just as you see Uptown getting transformed, the excitement is extending throughout charlotte,” Jennifer Branham, owner of The Boulevard. Baking for DNC delegates has begun at Kai’s Kookies. "300 cookies for the Hampton Inn and they're coming to pick up 150 of those right now," said owner, Tracy Watkins. Kai's Kookies and the Southern Cake Queen are hoping to get in on the action with cookies and cupcakes. Some of them with the Obama family faces, including their dog Bo. "We're not going to sleep until next week. We'll be baking all day and all night because we want to make sure that everyone who comes to Charlotte has a little piece of heaven," said Emma Merisie, The Souther Cake Queen. Toast in Dilworth added a new menu item for the convention. The Obamelet features some of the president's favorite foods.
