CHARLOTTE, N.C.-Democratic National Convention credential holders backed up one of the entrances to the Cable Box tonight. And after V.I.P.'s like C.N.N.'s Anderson Cooper slipped by,
security had to temporarily send visitors away.
"I really wanted to see him in person, I really wanted to see him in person," said University City Resident Brenda Ratliff. Ratliff wasn't one of those V.I.P.'s. Even though she waited in line for 9 hours to get her community credential for the stadium. Ratlif is disappointed and said the convention committee should not have switched venues. "People are used to the rain in the south. They took down the stage too early," Ratliff said.
Brenda and her sisters waited all day with hundreds of others to get into the official viewing party at the Convention Center. Speech viewing parties popped up all over uptown. Blumenthal Performing Arts C.E.O. Tom Gabbard set up three viewing parties at his venues. "If we can play a part with these people realizing the dream they had for today then that's a good thing," Gabbard said.
As gridlock slowed traffic to a crawl and the long wait continued for tonight's speech, Paulette Harris made one prediction. "The final word will be from God and he has it," Harris said.
