CHARLOTTE, NC - Mayor Foxx spoke this afternoon about his trip to Washington D.C. to ask for a $55 million dollar national security grant for the Democratic National Convention.  Each city since 2001 has received this grant to help pay for additional officers.

The Mayor had called the briefing today to discuss a number of recent events impacting Charlotte.  Among them: his recent trip to Capitol Hill to request Federal security funding for the DNC; economic development announcements including Time Warner Cable and Jetion Solar job additions in the area; local unemployment figures; and Charlotte’s ranking among “The Next Big Boom Towns In The U.S.”

Today was the start of what will become regular briefings from the Mayor.  Future briefings will occur on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
