RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A Greensboro educator has been named North Carolina's Teacher of the Year.
Grimsley High School English teacher Karyn Dickerson was honored by North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson on Thursday.
Atkinson called Dickerson an inspiring example in the classroom.
She will spend the next school year traveling as an ambassador for teaching. Dickerson will receive the use of a vehicle, an engraved vase, $7,500 in cash, and a trip to the National Teacher of the Year conference.
She also will serve as an adviser to the State Board of Education for two years and as a board member for the North Carolina Public School Forum for one year.
