RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina chapter of the NAACP is gearing up for another week of protests and arrests at the Republican-led General Assembly.

The civil rights group will resume its weekly demonstrations Monday after taking last week to hold a statewide tour with public events.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has spearheaded demonstrations nearly every Monday since April to protest Republican policies on social programs, criminal justice and taxes. The number of arrestees and the crowds supporting them has grown every week.

More than 150 people ranging from activists to professionals have been arrested.

The NAACP says this week's demonstrations will focus on education and voting rights. The Legislature is considering voucher bills and other actions that critics say harm public education.
