CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Major additions to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. New numbers out Tuesday night show the district has just over 141,000 students this year.

That's about a thousand more than projected, and three-thousand more than last year. Superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison says CMS still needs to hire more than 70 teachers to keep up with the growth.

In addition to hiring new teachers CMS must also consider how to pay for two dozen new tests students will take this year.

It's part of a new state standard to track teacher performance. Districts are responsible for the printing costs of the exams.
