Child Struck By School Bus

KANNAPOLIS, N.C.--A 6-year-old boy has been struck by a Cabarrus County School bus on University Drive near Clemson Court in Kannapolis.  The accident occurred in a small cul-de-sac at the end of University Drive, past the normal school bus stop Wednesday morning.  

The child was transported to CMC-Northeast Medical Center for treatment, but was then flown to CMC Main in Charlotte due to the severity of his injuries.  The child remains in critical but stable condition with life threatening injuries.

The school bus (number 43) was in route to Royal Oak Elementary School on Dakota Street in Kannapolis.  

Kannapolis Police traffic accident reconstruction specialists were called to the scene to conduct the investigation. Interviews are being conducted and the investigators are reviewing the physical evidence to determine the sequence of events leading to the accident. No definite investigative findings are available at this time; therefore there are no pending charges against the driver of the bus, Tomasina Colclough of Concord.
