CHARLOTTE.NC--In a few weeks cancer patients in Charlotte will have access to a brand new treatment therapy for late stage breast cancer.

The FDA just approved a new drug called Kadcyla which is a combination of two drugs with one being a powerful chemotherapy drug.

Charlotte was one of two cities chosen for clinical testing.

The antibody-drug works by attaching itself to certain types of cancer cells and delivers chemo directly to them.

This is the first anti-body drug combo for treating HER2-positive breast cancer.

Genentech, the company that created the drugs says it will offer programs to help people who may not be able to afford the medicine.
