Zumba is a dance fitness program for people of all shapes, sizes and ages. There are Zumba classes in over 110,000 locations across more than 125 countries.
Arthur Pulley is a personal trainer and fitness expert at Harris YMCA. He says Zumba is a great way to shed that holiday weight, “People pick up on average 7 to 9 pounds over the holiday."
You can burn anywhere from 500 to 1,000 calories in just one Zumba class. Zumba instructor, Mary Milani says Zumba is a great way to burn calories, “the weight just melts away.”
Milani teaches Zumba at Harris YMCA and she admits the craze is growing, “I started with a Monday night class with about 15 people and now it has about 100.”
Marlo Wallace is an East Charlotte Resident. She had lost 20 pounds since she started taking Zumba. Others agree that the weight loss results from Zumba are amazing.
So what’s next in the world of Zumba? Mary Milani sees Zumba in nightclubs for 2012, "Go clubbing and do Zumba at the club."
The American College of Sports Medicine has names Zumba one of the top 10 fitness trends for 2012.
