RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — NASCAR drivers likely will have an easier time getting around Charlotte Motor Speedway than the race fans trying to get to the track.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is warning motorists of heavy traffic on Interstate 85 in the Charlotte are beginning this weekend and continuing through May 27 thanks to the events at the speedway.
The heaviest traffic is expected on I-85, U.S. 29, N.C. 49 and Bruton Smith Boulevard.
Commuters using I-85 can expect delays next Friday afternoon and should adjust driving time. In addition, officials will limit access from I-85 to Exit 49 on that day at approximately 10 p.m.
Motorists who don't need to travel near the speedway during race events are asked to avoid the area since heavy congestion is expected.
