Series of suburban robberies target NC grocer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina grocer has offered a reward after 10 of its stores have been robbed since Christmas.

Police say armed robbers stole an undisclosed amount of cash from three Charlotte-area Harris Teeters in just over a week. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Sgt. Brian Scharf thinks the same suspects committed the series of thefts.

The most recent robbery happened in south Charlotte and police say the two suspects fired shots in the air and struck a manager on the back of the head. Harris Teeter stores in Cornelius and Fort Mill, S.C., were robbed eight last week. The seven previous robberies spanned Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point.

The Matthews-based grocer is offering a reward of $50,000.
