GREAT FALLS, S.C. (AP) — A Chester County soldier is not heading to Afghanistan after his home burned earlier this week.

The Herald of Rock Hill reported (http://bit.ly/NGfUJJ) that Spc. Johnny Kelly of Great Falls was scheduled to leave Charlotte on Tuesday to deploy with the 178th Engineer Battalion.

The flight for Kelly and four other soldiers was delayed a day, but before he could get home Tuesday, he got a call that his mobile home was burning. He was given permission by his sergeant and lieutenant to head home.

His five children were with their grandmother when the fire started.

The 33-year-old single father is now wondering what to do next to start over.

Kelly says he does still want to go to Afghanistan with his unit when he can.
