Signature win boosts Charlotte's NCAA aspirationsCHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Coach Alan Major knew his Charlotte 49ers needed a signature win to put on their NCAA tournament resume. They got one Wednesday night. With an impressive 71-67 road victory at No. 11 Butler, the 49ers made a statement they are to be taken seriously and aren't simply the beneficiaries of an easy early season schedule. The 49ers proved they can compete with — and beat — one of the NCAA's best. It's the type of head-turning win that could propel Charlotte from a bubble team to an at-large lock in the upcoming NCAA tournament, but Major says he hasn't put any pressure on his young team instead urging them to stay in the moment. The 49ers (18-6, 6-4 Atlantic 10) complete a tough four-game stretch Saturday against St. Louis. |
