LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) — Volunteers with the Lincoln County Life-Saving Crew say they will fight the sudden closure of their station.
The Charlotte Observer reported (http://bit.ly/13IpIcR) that squad members said the vote by some board members last week was illegal.
Four of the board's eight members met April 24 and voted to close. An assistant chief said the vote was illegal because other members were not notified of the meeting.
But Lincoln County officials revoked the station's contract when they learned of the vote.
The squad has not responded to emergency calls since Sunday.
West Lincoln Rescue is the only other volunteer rescue squad in the county.
It provides backup to Lincoln County Emergency Medical Services.
