by WCCB Charlotte

A fun run through Uptown Charlotte wrapped up the Special Olympics North America Conference. More than 550 runners went from the NASCAR Hall of fame to the convention center. Athletes from Canada to the Caribbean attended this week's conference. The Special Olympics turned 45 this week.

“We're all about health and fitness so starting this morning with a run, walk, everybody got their workout in and now we're ready to go back in sessions,” said Craig Pippert, Special Olympics Senior Manger of Sports Development.

29-year-old Billy Quick from High Point carried the torch. He has also run in the New York and Boston marathons.
