5.9 Earthquake In Virginia Felt In Charlotte North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC - The US Geological Survey is confirming a 5.9 earthquake in Virginia felt in Washington, New York City and North Carolina.

The earthquake struck central Virginia at 1:51 pm.


In DC, the quake prompted the evacuation of the Pentagon.  In Charlotte, lots of people reported office buildings shaking.  We're told it was felt as far north as Rhode Island, New York City and Martha's Vineyard, Mass., where President Barack Obama is vacationing.
