CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Starting in July, more North Carolina residents will be eligible for food stamps. The state is changing income requirements, meaning some people who make too much money to qualify for the program now may be able to enroll in a few weeks.
Currently, to qualify for food stamps, a family of four must have an income under $28,665, which is (130% of the federal poverty level). After July 1st, a family of four can make up to $44,100 (200% of the federal poverty level) and qualify.
