AAA: Charlotte Driving Students Aren't Learning Enough
North Carolina ranked second in the U.S. for 16-and-17-year-old deaths during the first six months of 2011. A.A.A. says current teen driving programs focus too much on things like how to change the oil. A.A.A. says they don't focus as much on driver behavior behind the wheel. The Driver's Education specialist for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools disagrees with the A.A.A. report.
Lawmakers are reviewing the state's Drivers Ed curriculum. A report on their findings should be ready in June. Last year, lawmakers cut five mllion dollars from the state's Drivers Ed budget.
